Description
New York Thruway route marker.Up for sale today is this New York State Thruway route sign. Made to the exact state standard as used from 1954 to the present day. the New York Thruway opened in 1954 to connect the three major metropolitan areas of the state: Buffalo, Albany, and New York City.
An original of these is very rare to find scrapped; most of them enjoy their active service on the highway and the side streets. So here is your chance to own an excellent display piece, without chancing legal trouble.
This sign is flat printed on steel, with completely accurate layout and fonts. It weighs about 5 pounds, 8 ounces, and is 16 by 16 inches. the original shields came in 16, 20, 24, and 36 inch size. it is a non-reflective sign - perfect for ordinary display, indoors or outdoors.
(if you would like a different size version, or a reflective one, please ask as I can certainly make one!)
This is a high quality, heavy steel sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!
I can of course make these signs with
any route number of your choice,
and not just this style, but others with the reflectors, the embossed style that other states used, and even the classic mileage, direction, and city limit guide signs from the era. Anything you would like, made with unsurpassed quality right here in the good old US of A.
