ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This sale is a Nestor Johnson manual card shuffler.  These work fantastic when they are in good order but this one cranks hard.  We removed the cover so you could see the gears.
Wood handle and crank, metal body.

I got this information from a fellow eBay traveler and thought it pertinent.  Thank you LH.
That's a Johnson 5-P, where the "P" meant plastic main drive gear. Johnson used a common polymer from the 1950s to mold those gears, which unfortunately tended to shrink over time. When new, that gear was about an eighth of an inch larger in diameter, and meshed with the subsequent brass gears just fine. But after 20 or more years the degree of shrinkage has become so great that its teeth no longer mesh with the subsequent brass gears, as illustrated by your excellent pictures. None of the Johnson shufflers with that plastic main gear can be made to work properly, because the problem is shrinkage. Hence, at best, they are objects for decoration and not use. Enjoy.
