    Description

    Nebraska state route 2 marker.
Up for sale today is this Nebraska highway 2 sign. Made to the exact state standard used from 1975 to the present day.  State Route 2 is the longest route in Nebraska, going from the southeast corner of the state to the northwest.  the Nebraska state route marker has always featured the Conestoga wagon design as seen here, complete with pioneer man, woman, and oxen.  Over the years, the wagon has gotten smaller and the route number has gotten larger for practical reasons, with the general layout of a trapezoid on a square blank first appearing in the early 1970s.
in this sign designer's humble opinion, the Nebraska covered wagons - old and new - are the best route marker designs on the planet.
An original of these is very rare to find scrapped; many still enjoy their active service on the highway and the side streets.  So here is your chance to own an excellent display piece, without chancing legal trouble.
The sign is flat printed on steel, with completely accurate layout and fonts.  It weighs about 5 pounds, 12 ounces.
the original shields came in less wieldy 24x24 and 36x36 size, so this one is a precise rescaling to 16 by 16 inches.  it is a non-reflective sign - perfect for ordinary display, indoors or outdoors.
(if you would like a larger size version, or a reflective one, please ask as I can certainly make one!)
This is a high quality, heavy steel sign.  Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!
I can of course make these signs with
any route number of your choice,
and not just this style, but others with the reflectors, the embossed style that other states used, and even the classic mileage, direction, and city limit guide signs from the era. Anything you would like, made with unsurpassed quality right here in the good old US of A.
