Maine state highway 11 road sign route shield marker 1950s wood reflective 1953

Description

24 by 18 inch Maine state route 11 highway sign.  the sign is made to the 1953 state specification which introduced flat wooden route markers with reflective beading, in 16" and 24" size, to replace the older embossed signs.  the specification was on the books until the early 2000s, with only accommodations for better materials and reflective technology.
condition is as shown in the photos.  sign is screen printed black on beaded reflective Silver Scotchlite sheeting, on half-inch thick wood.  it lies completely straight and flat, and has patina commensurate with its service.
