18 by 24 inch Kansas highway sign, directing the way to the Santa Fe Trail Ruts - a scenic and historic landmark near Dodge City consisting of approximately two miles of well-preserved Santa Fe Trail across the prairie.  the sign dates to maybe as early as the 1950s, but probably the 1960s or maybe even 1970s.  historic information signs like this one tended to be a low priority for reflective material.
condition is as shown in the photos.  sign is screen printed on non-reflective brown background, on steel.  one bullet hole touched up, likely by the highway department.  it lies completely straight and flat, and has patina commensurate with its service.
