    Description

    Indiana Toll Road route marker.
Up for sale today is this Indiana Toll Road route sign. Made to the exact state standard, as used from the route's inception in the 1950s to the present day.  the Indiana East-West Toll Road, first opened in 1956, was built across northern Indiana as a connector between Detroit and Chicago, as well as a continuation of the toll roads starting from New York City and heading through New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.  (a North-South Toll Road never made it past the planning stages; it was supplanted by the Eisenhower Interstate Highway System's route 65.)
this style with the arrow was used on side streets to indicate the direction of travel needed to get to the Toll Road.  please let me know if you'd like your arrow pointing in a different direction.
An original of these is very rare to find scrapped; most of them enjoy their active service on the highway and the side streets.  So here is your chance to own an excellent display piece, without chancing legal trouble.
The sign is flat printed on steel, with completely accurate layout and fonts.  It weighs about 9 pounds, 15 ounces.  this is the smaller commonly found size of the original shield: 24x24 inches
.  it is a non-reflective sign - perfect for ordinary display, indoors or outdoors.
(if you would like a differently size version, or a reflective one, please ask as I can certainly make one!)
This is a high quality, heavy steel sign.  Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!
I can of course make these signs with
any route number of your choice,
and not just this style, but others with the reflectors, the embossed style that other states used, and even the classic mileage, direction, and city limit guide signs from the era. Anything you would like, made with unsurpassed quality right here in the good old US of A.
Figure about 11 pounds for shipping, packed with care and mailed from zip code 61833.
