Braniff's routes were primarily in the midwestern and southwestern United States, Mexico, Central and South America. In the late 1970's it expanded to Asia and Europe. The airlines ceased carrier operations in May of 1982 due to high fuel prices, credit card interest rates, and extreme competition from new airline startups created by The Airline Deregulation Act of 1978. In 1983, former pilots of Braniff Airlines started Sun Country Airlines based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and is still providing service today.
