Description
90 by 50 inch (!) Connecticut Turnpike "WESTBOUND - NEW YORK" highway sign. the sign dates to the opening of the Connecticut Turnpike in 1958, with the original blue paint still visible under the green. the first set of signs were made blue - and, in fact, some of them went up into field use that way - before it was decided that the Turnpike would be part of the interstate highway system, primarily as route 95, and therefore the signage would conform to the white-on-green interstate standard.condition is as shown in the photos. sign is Stimsonite button reflector elements for the border, text, and arrow, all on a multi-panel green background. the sign is about 3 inches thick with some reinforcing ribs in the back. it is made of aluminum. it lies completely straight and flat, with patina commensurate with its service. there is a very slight bow at the left side when the sign is resting vertically - this goes away with correct mounting.
now, the fun part: the physical exchange. the sign is not heavy (maybe about 60 pounds) but it is very large - over 4 feet high, and nearly 8 feet wide - and bulky. for the advertised Buy It Now price, I will deliver to anywhere within New England.
