    Description

24 by 24 inch stop sign, from California.  the sign is made to the 1924 standard that introduced the red octagonal stop sign to the state of California.  a few technological advances like cateye reflectors were introduced in subsequent years.  this particular sign dates to 1942, as seen by the J date code.  district 11 is San Diego and Imperial counties, A is a stop sign (your guess is as good as mine) and 28 is a serial number.
at one point this sign had reflectors and a backplate but these seem to have gone missing over the years.
condition is as shown in the photos.  sign is red and white porcelain on steel.  it lies almost completely straight and flat, with some field touchup on the bullet holes.  patina is commensurate with its service.
signs guaranteed old, original, authentic.  bid with confidence.
