    Description

A collection of five (5) Sports Illustrated Legends Lithographs, each signed and numbered and professionally framed. The lithos themselves are ~ 16x20. Show modest signs of aging, but overall in excellent condition. Includes photo and locations of the players signing the item. All signatures are in pencil, and are all beautiful vintage signatures. The Grange is a very nice and fluid, in contrast to his common choppy signature he signed in his latter years. Players include:
    Joe DiMaggio
    Red Grange
Joe Louis & Max Schmelling (Dual Signed)
    Johnny Unitas
    Stan Musial
In 1974 Sports Illustrated , America’s leading sports publication, offered its readers the opportunity to purchase six limited edition lithographs featuring the artwork of some of this country’s top illustrators including Gustav Rehberger, Harvey Dinnerstein, Bob Peak, Daniel Schwartz, and Bernie Fuchs. The theme of the lithographs was that of Immortal Moments of Sports, with eight different "Living Legends" featured in total. The printing of those lithographs was limited to 1,500 numbered copies, and all were autographed by the featured "legends" in pencil across the bottom white border. In order to assure collectors that no future prints would be made, Sports Illustrated destroyed all of the original plates. That first series of six limited-edition signed prints proved so popular with collectors that Sports Illustrated decided to offer an additional series of six limited-edition signed prints two years later. Those 1976 offerings, however, were produced in even smaller quantities than the first series, with only 1,000 of each printed. All are autographed by the respective athletes in pencil along the bottom border as issued. The two most sought after of the collection are the DiMaggio and the Louis / Schmelling, both of which are included in this lot.
These all came from one collector, and I prefer to sell them as a set. The framing alone cost over k to have done. If you have interest in individual pieces, please reach out and we will try to work something out.
Can be picked up in NYC area or shipping can be arranged by the buyer. Again these are professionally framed, so best to have them shipped via Uship and not post.
