Honda GB500 TT - 1990 – Museum Quality – Or Rider210 miles since new, 15 miles recently
I bought this bike in October 2016 from a neighbor collector in Arizona. The bike had 192 miles since new. It was originally owned by a Honda dealership in Missouri whose owner put those miles on the bike. I’m guessing it didn’t sell as expected in those days. So, the dealer-owner had all the fluids drained and the internals “fogged” to prevent corrosion. The bike was kept in the dealer’s personal collection in his show room until he passed a few years ago and the heirs sold the dealership.
The bike was bought by the previous owner in Missouri August 2011 and kept in the non-running, show room condition. He brought the bike to Arizona and stored it in his hangar, when I became aware of it in 2015. I eventually bought the bike with the thought of riding it for a few years. So, I resurrected the bike to running/riding condition.
I brought the bike to running condition by flushing the fogging material from the tank, fuel system and carb with 100LL Avgas. The carb float needles checked out by holding fuel for more than 24 hours. The oil system and motor internals were flushed/filled with fresh oil. The brake systems were flushed/filled with new fluid. I bore-scoped the cylinder and all valves and the cylinder appeared as new. I installed a new battery. The electrical systems all checked out perfectly. I expected the engine to need a few revs to awake, but it totally surprised me starting on the 2nd kick. I’ve since done the high-altitude carb adjustment per the factory service manual (easily reversed). It starts easily with the electric starter and runs perfectly here in Northern Arizona at 6,650’.
To preserve the original exhaust system n the as-new condition it was, I installed a Batson stainless exhaust and it has been what the bike’s been run with, as shown in the images. The original mirrors have never been on the bike, so I bought some bar-end mirrors to use (which are not mounted). They all will go with the bike. As one can imagine, the tool kit and owner’s manual are as new. A 1989 factory service manual is included. The smog crankcase ventilation system was removed by the original owner and will go with the bike. I purchased new front and rear Metzeler tires in their softest compound. These have not been installed and will go with the bike.
The paint, chrome and anodizing are totally unblemished. Indeed, the bike has not been washed with soap and water by the previous owner or myself. The bike has been kept in my dry heated hangar.
GB500s are more appreciated today.
The bike has never been registered. It will be sold with a Missouri Title and a personal Bill-of-Sale.
