Its routes were primarily in the mid-western and south-western United States, Mexico, Central America and South America. The airline ceased operations in May 1982 because high fuel prices and an overaggressive expansion of its service.. Subsequent efforts were made to reintroduce Braniff as a discount carrier between 1984-1989 and 1991-1992. Both efforts ended in bankruptcy. . Its routes were primarily in the mid-western and south-western United States, Mexico, Central America and South America. In the late 1970s it expanded to Asia and Europe. The
airline ceased operations in May 1982 because high fuel prices and an overaggressive expansion
of its service. Braniff was well-known for its
"jelly bean fleet"
of airplanes which were painted in many different colors and schemes.
Subsequent efforts were made to reintroduce Braniff as a discount carrier
between 1984-1989 and 1991-1992. Both efforts
ended in bankruptcy.
